The undergrowth of our Appalachian mountains, the Rhododendron and Mountain Laurel shrubs love our acidic, depleted soils. They are, however, toxic to humans and animals and emit a soil toxin poisonous to other plants (notice very few things grow around them). We clear them as part of our sustainable forestry management plan and also when clearing for agriculture land.
